Symbolic meaning and uses
The Wu Lou is the primary symbol of health and longevity, reputedly beneficial in arresting ailments, as well as the recuperative process. Also, it is said that keeping an image of the Wu Lou adds years to one’s lifespan.

The shape of the bottle gourd is also a representation of heaven and earth; the top half represent heaven and the bottom half signify earth. Advocates state that the Wu Lou should be placed near the bed, so that the qi it attracts contribute to self-development and longevity, or to healing if a person is less than healthy.
